Summer Movies

Spam,

One of my favorite things to do in the summer is to duck out of work early to catch a late afternoon movie. But this summer is flying by and I haven’t been able to enjoy this yet. The only movie popcorn I’ve had since Zombieland was while watching RPatz and a shirtless T.Lautner fight for a brooding K.Stew (yes…I fought swarms of teenage girls for a theater seat the day after the movie opened). Well, summer isn’t over yet and I still have a few opportunities to catch a few good flicks.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice opened this past Wednesday. I don’t know if I’ve really liked Nicholas Cage in any movies besides the National Treasures, but I’ll chance it. Disney movies are usually entertaining.
Ramona and Beezus comes out July 23. I mentioned this one in a previous post, so I am excited it finally has a set opening date.
The Expendables. I just have to list off some of the actors to explain why: Sylvester Stalone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, and AHNAULD! I can’t believe the governor of CA is back making movies! (Well…he did say he would be…tee hee!) Anyways, even if this is just a loud, blow things up, and shoot people movie, it is definitely a must-see with all those big names in the credits. It comes out August 13.
..along with Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. A different kind of action movie, but this one looks pretty funny. How can you not smile at the dorkiness of Michael Cera?
And finally…Piranha 3-D. Did you ever watch the original? My siblings and I did…a lot. Along with Tremors. Both REALLY bad action/horror movies that ended up being a little funny.

Do you think I can get away with skipping out early five times over the course of the next month and a half?

Cheers to summer movies!

I’ve lost it!

Fame,

So far so good. I’ve only lost Jayson’s jacket and my wallet. Yes, my wallet. It’s floating around the city on a bus. Or maybe a ferry. I can’t remember - hence, lost. Other than that, I recommend a visit to San Francisco. I’ve been here 4 days and still have not done all or seen all that I would like to. Good thing I have about 3 more days left!

How’s the MN/ND weather? I’ve heard I’m missing the warmest/hottest days so far. Here are a few picture updates (I haven’t lost my camera! Jayson did have to repair it once after I dropped it. I thought it was a lost cause for about 30 minutes. That was day 2!).

Uhhhhh - Just kidding (see comment about crap wireless connection on your gaga post). I’ll have plenty to share once I return to the land of no waiting an hour at bus stops!

LOVE ME,

and my mind that I haven’t lost… yet,

Ssshhh…

Spam,

I was going to post about something else, but my morning news reading lead me to something I just had to share…

Have you ever watched Silent Library? I haven’t but I watched this

And then I had to Wiki the show to find more information.  The rules are easy to understand after watching that video, but the group gets paid if they can keep their noise below a certain level during the challenge. Some of the challenges include:

Mayo Cone: The player has 30 seconds to eat a chocolate-covered cone filled with Mayonnaise

Electric Puzzle: The player must complete a jigsaw puzzle in 30 seconds while electric shocks are administered at random times.

Old Soup: The player lies supine on the floor, while a trembling elderly man eats a bowl of hot soup above his/her face. The soup drips, splatters, and pours on the player’s face.

Dish Water: The player must drink a glass of water from a tub of soaking, dirty dishes brought in by a busboy.

This one may be my favorite…

Sad Bee: An elderly man walks in with a bee costume on, the player must then stand face to face with the man until the man shocks the player with a tazer.

…because the players don’t know what is going to happen. Who would expect a tazer? From an old man in a bee costume? HILARIOUS!

There is a marathon on this weekend. Starting at noon tomorrow. I will be in Denver for work (by myself) and now know how I will spend my night…in my hotel room, with take-out or room service, laughing at people getting tazered by old men in bee costumes. I CAN’T WAIT!

Cheers to Sad Bees,

PS. Yes. This is the stuff I consider news.

Spin pin

Famous,

Have you seen the commercials for the Goody Spin Pin? I hadn’t either when Kara mentioned them to me. However, when I do not feel like washing or styling or doing anything at all to my hair, not even brushing, I have 2 go-to styles - braid or bun. For a bun, something like this, but usually a little tighter because I don’t do all the bobby pin stuff, and I have to use elastic bands. And for a braid, I usually go side braid. Finally, I saw the commercial.

spin-pin2

Ok, looks pretty good. But, my hair is heavy. And the longer it gets, even a pony tail can cause a headache. It’s mysteriously heavy, because it’s not super thick (your hair kicks my hair’s butt in thickness). I once had over 90 bobby pins in my hair for an up-do for a wedding. HEAVY. Moving on… saw the ad. Then, Kara came to work one day, and she had them in - no pony tail holder or other pins necessary. I caved, and bought some. And, OH HAPPY DAY, bun-day may be replacing braid-day as my #1 go-to.  It’s not too tight. I have no headache. It’s not slipping out, or hanging down. They are worth it!! A+.

Love me,

and my lazy hair days - especially in the summer. And especially on vacations where I don’t want to drag around hair dryers and straighteners. Look out San Fran - braids and buns coming your way!!

A little nook

Spam,

It’s been awhile. I apologize. But I do have a new project to share!

We have a funny little space by our front door. It’s perfectly fit for our two small dog kennels, which are an eyesore if they are the first thing you see when you enter. So, I decided to cover them up.

table11

Sorry for the lighting. Today was dark and rainy, so the pictures didn’t turn out that great but I was anxious and couldn’t wait for sunshine. Anyways, I cut a piece of plywood to fit the corner and then Ben added legs (2X2 pieces of wood). The table is VERY rudimentary, but it will never be seen so that’s not a problem. I just hope it doesn’t collapse! I bought two table cloths from Target and cut pieces to exactly fit the sides and top. Then I used iron-on bonding for the seams and to attach the pieces together. I stapled extra fabric around the corners to cover the legs so you can’t ses any part of the table. This also makes the cover look pleated at the corners. I didn’t make panels for the two sides against the wall and I am thinking of using that fabric for a pillow that will go on the couch in that room.

I still have to add a few things to the table and I may paint the mirror’s frame. I am going to wait until I start decorating the rest of the room to decide.

Here are the kennels. We leave the table cloth up when the boys are in them!

More pictures to come. I promise!

Did you go to the big garage sale in town this past weekend? My mom went and said it was crazy! And any good booths at ArtFest this year? Fill me in! I miss ArtFest especially.

Cheers to checking off one more project (almost),
